Well, the last time I heard James Whitaker weigh in on Kate -- I mean, Katherine -- he said something like she was "only middle class and that still matters like hell" & and sounded doubtful they'd marry. So maybe he's hearing different things now?

Also, since Sophie Wessex was middle class ( and as she's the only first wife left of the Queen's sons ) maybe the RF doesn't care so much for a title as they did 25 years ago?

Like a broken record, I don't care as much for her lack of title as I do about her lack of job ... but then again, I'm an Ami and maybe we aren't as class conscious?

P.S. re: Chelsy not being the brainiest.
Sorry, but she is studying economics and politics, right? That takes some grey matter.
Sometimes smart people are a bit naive about certain things.

Sometimes beautiful women have to act dumb as people are often threatened by smart AND beautiful women. it's a bit of an act, maybe.

It sounds like she's got a good sense of humor. She'll need it in that family.

As for the drinking, the Windsors are hardly teetotalers, right?

I don't care if she is studing toothpicks. She is doing SOMETHING. And doing somethind requires some brain power. Yatching and diving off a yatch? Not so much.

Call me Katherine not look I got a job.  If she gets 'called' to do charity work now, I still won't forgive her.  She should have done that on her own.

I saw this on another royal forum and it kind of confuses me. She never had a problem with it before, so why now?

dizzylizzy: that james whittaker may be a bit pompous but he seems to know the inside deal and i think he has been around long enough for his statement to carry a little weight...so that may very well be the thinking of the RF. as to sophie, well she married the THIRD SON of the queen and basically way down on the pecking order so it doesnt really matter if she came from middle class/no title as she will never be queen. not my view, just the way that family seems to work.  Roll Eyes

Most sources call her Catherine. In Wikipedia and ther sources she was Born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton in January 1982.

I've always seen it spelled with a "C" as well.  I've also read in other sources that Kate prefers to go by Catherine... but that doens't mean that is what people call her- ie. I always introduce myself as "Jennifer" but within 5 minutes of talking to someone, it is inevitably shortened to "Jen" .... so by the media saying that Kate prefers "Catherine" it doesn't mean she's mad people call her Kate, it just means that isn't the name she identifies with.

But royal expert James Whitaker said: “She is a middle-class girl and she doesn’t have the right background. It may mean less than it used to, but it still matters like hell.”

I'm not a fan of James Whitaker. His opinions don't mean anything to me, because his chocie of words are always very telling. He's rhetorical and sometimes crude.  I first noticed this when I saw him speak about C&C in an tv interview. This was before the two of them got married. He's said some very nasty and sexual explicit things about the two of them. It made me want to bath in clorox.

I agree...I'll always remember his phrase in the days after Diana's death "her life was a real life soap opera" in that horribly posh voice of his....The man knows as much as we do...and yet I could probably tell him more....Chelsy and Harry won't be getting married anyday soon. Chelsy isn't dumb..you can't do politics and economics and not have some sense.....and Kate's never said she wants people to call her Catherine in public....people need to chill Not amused!

i like how he doesn't know more about 'kate...*ahim* catherine' apparent lack of a job...and i qoute:

Quote
Quizzed about the criticism levelled at Kate for not having a proper job, the journalist seemed to feel that there's no need for her to engage in full-time work at this point, musing: "Maybe she's just standing by to see what's going to happen in her relationship with William?"

yep...real royal insider....few of us on this board reached same conclusion  Roll Eyes

before adding that Kate could be called upon to undertake some charity work if, indeed, her future lies with the Royal Family.

yeah...i can't wait for that charity....will it be a lesson on 'how 2 date a prince 101' for all the homely chicks out there  Wink

IMO doing charity work if you HAVE to is only drudgery work if someone only does charity works because they are "called upon to undertake some charity work if, indeed, her future lies with the RF". IMO she should WANT to do charity work and not just because she gets a tiara as payment. Oh and vacations and clothes etc.  Roll Eyes

Your right... what I meant was with the way the author put it seemed as if she would only do it if she was told to and not because she wanted to.

Hey, that's a great idea for Kate, Hippie Cyndi.
Kate could supervise these girls with their stunning transformations and teach them how to put Vaseline on their teeth so they can smile more easily for their adoring press ... kind of like a Miss America consultant. Maybe she could team up with Burrell.
