Police radios are not for personal use nor are they used by those they are protecting...Anyone who knows how police operate will also know that Kate nor William would be allowed access to a police radio network.  Their networks are heavily monitored and are only used by police officers or police civilan radio operators.  A lot of information found on the police radio network could be  seen as sensative and therefore they never allow anyone other than police personnel to use it. The Metropolitian Police would go spare if one of their "operational" radios was being held by a civvy.

I think it's more of a case that for one day Kate and William were using it to keep in regular contact with people on the ground.  It's not like O2 are only providing it to police for use.  I hate how they blow these things out ofproportion

You're not understanding me...It would not be a "police radio"....Those things can be bought anywhere and are probably used at large venues like polo grounds.  There is now way in hell that police would allow a civilan use of a police radio EVER!!! Police might advice the royal protection oficers to equip her with one but it would only be linked to say one that maybe Wills or his guards use.  It would not be linked to the police network at all.

She just held on to it for the photo op!  Why in the world would she need to be holding it/using it at an event that Wills is participating in.  Especially when he has his own staff/guard close by her.  In my opinion she did it for the photo, make herself feel more important.

heres a thought: for someone who is suppose to be oh-so-discreet and wants her privacy, why would she be so obvious about that walkie-talkie? she could have just kept it in her purse, right? again, i wonder if miss middleton has a hidden agenda? how else does one get offers to be a designers muse or the new face of some other designer? once this is over, she will always be able to use her association w/ the RF to lauch a modeling career. thats if she can find the time between shopping that is.

KM has hidden agenda and that radio would make her feel important and an additional "thing" to her increasing status. that really makes me feel i really dislike KM. i just knew all along that she has this deep motive, not for love, but FOR TITLE AND HONOR just llike camilla parker blowes (bowles)...

I think you guys are placing waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much on this radio thing. 

Polo grounds are huge venues.  I'm not sure how big they are but I think if you take a normal football field and multiply that by a few more, then you might get an insight into how big they are.

It's just a walkie talkie...the tabs have put their own (paper selling) spin on this one

I had the same feeling as soon as I read the story and saw the picture. This is why I never liked Kate. She just doesn't seem to be nice or friendly.

i highly doubt the truth of this.
yes, we have a picture. why would kate have needed it at that point in time?

i think it more likely that since there were in her mothers car they needed some form of contact with williams security in the off chance that their car was seperated from any security cars trailing them.
walkie talkies are also used just to talk to someone who is within range. frankly, i dont know if a walkie talkie would be a great security measure unless there is always a security officer watching and guarding kate around the clock.
