Ministers were told that civil wedding would not be legal ~ TimesA document released under the Freedom of Information Act shows that John Major’s Government insisted a decade ago that the Royal Family would be forbidden from marrying in register offices Hmmm...the plots thickens Royal wedding ~ TimesMarriages are made in Heaven, not statute books: Honi soit qui mal y pense The marriage of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall is illegal — according to the official advice of 1996. Secret document warned Charles remarriage would be illegal ~ Daily MailIt also said the Anglican church would have a 'moral obligation' to refuse to bring together two divorcees. Charles Mosley, editor-in-chief of Debrett's and an expert on formal marriages and society events, said: 'This could be the trigger that brings about the passing of the throne to William. We have to know whether our King is legally married or not.'

Their marriage is illegal, they should see about rectifying this situation ..ASAP! The ramifications of this could be very damaging to the monarchy, enough damage has been done already by them.

I think it was something that Charles didn't consider for long enough. He should have announced his engagement and then waited for perhaps at least 6 months for all of the legalities of it to be debated and then sorted out. This would have given everyone peace of mind. I'd be interested to know what Riley thinks of this... *goes off to pm her*

If there is any question of the validity of it that may in the future cast a doubt over his sucession then it has done damage to the monarchy Charles and Camilla marriage: your views ~ TimesThe marriage of the Prince of Wales to Camilla Parker Bowles was illegal, according to government advice given at the time of his divorce from Diana, Princess of Wales. A document released under the Freedom of Information Act shows that John Major's Government insisted a decade ago that the Royal Family would be forbidden from marrying in register offices. Is Charles and Camilla's marriage invalid? How does this affect Prince Charles's position as heir to the throne?

i guess its all bcuz he's the future King and will be governer of the church. if he's broken Church law...and there have been people saying that since before he was married the 2nd time....it does make Charles look pretty bad. even if he was just given the wrong advice it still looks as though he was a part of it considering how quickly he and Camilla married. they got hitched so fast you'd have thought there was a bun in the oven had they been a lot younger! at least its not as bad as the prince who married his Catholic mistress in secret. but its still pretty boneheaded.

They were informed. They choose to ignore the previous information and advice given and take another approach under the Human Rights Act as opposed to the Marriage Act.

They charged ahead in a very unseemly manner with this wedding because questions were being asked re: finances, Camilla, and the Duchy of Cornwall. Charles would not listen to those advisors who asked him to be cautious, as per usual. Heather

I've always thought that it was more to do with the questions of his finances than a real desire to marry Camilla. It was clear to see....in fact I think someone here said that there would be a release of pics or a big story about the boys to conteract the negative issues surrounding his finances...boy were they wrong. Goes to show the shallowness of some.
